Angelina Jolie has concluded her two-year legal battle against the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), related to an incident that involved her, her ex-husband Brad Pitt, and their children.
According to a report by Fox News, Jolie ended her lawsuit on Thursday, September 25, 2024. The legal action stemmed from the FBI’s investigation into an alleged abuse incident that occurred during a cross-Atlantic flight in 2016. This incident was a key factor in the breakdown of her marriage to Brad Pitt.
Fox News obtained court documents revealing that the 49-year-old actress requested to dismiss the case “with each party to bear its own fees and costs.” The judge granted her request and approved the dismissal on the same day.
For those unfamiliar with the background, Jolie initially filed the lawsuit in April 2022, nearly six years after the FBI conducted an investigation into the 2016 flight incident. During that time, allegations surfaced that Pitt had acted abusively toward Jolie and their children. However, after a two-month investigation, the FBI closed the case, concluding that no charges would be filed against Pitt.
Despite the closure of the investigation, Jolie sought further details about the incident by filing the lawsuit under the pseudonym “Jane Doe.” She invoked the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to request more information regarding the FBI’s handling of the case.
Jolie stated that she pursued the lawsuit to obtain details “about the agency’s investigation of an incident of domestic violence that occurred several years ago, involving the plaintiff and her minor children as victims and witnesses.” The documents associated with the case provide a grim account of the alleged events during the 2016 flight. Pitt was accused of “choking one of the children and striking another in the face” and allegedly “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her.”
The documents also claimed that Pitt drenched Jolie and their six children in “beer and red wine.” “Some of the children pleaded with Pitt to stop. They were all frightened. Many were crying,” one document revealed. Just days after the FBI closed its investigation in 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt, with their divorce being finalized in 2019. Though Pitt was never charged, the legal battle between the two over the incident has lingered for years, only now reaching its conclusion with the dismissal of Jolie’s lawsuit against the FBI.
