An Arizona man is facing charges of voyeurism and disorderly conduct after allegedly hiding under vehicles at a car wash to watch women’s feet. The suspect, Jesse Michael Johnson, 28, has a history of similar offenses and was arrested again this summer after police in Gilbert, Arizona, linked him to three separate incidents at a Super Star Car Wash near Riggs Road and Val Vista Drive.
According to a police report, Johnson targeted women who were vacuuming their SUVs at the car wash. “In these three incidents, the defendant pulled into a parking spot next to the victim. While each victim was vacuuming her vehicle, the defendant hid under her SUV and spent several minutes under her vehicle. The defendant climbed out from under the vehicle when each victim was finishing her vacuuming and left the area,” the report stated.
Surveillance footage from the car wash revealed Johnson’s behavior, and he was subsequently identified and arrested on Tuesday, September 24. He is currently being held on a $10,000 bond, told Law and Crime.
One of the women, who asked to remain anonymous, spoke to AZ Family about her unsettling experience. “At one point, you can see his head pop out on the driver’s side, looking up at me. I just never would have thought in a million years that there would be someone underneath my car,” she said, recalling the shocking moment she realized someone had been hiding under her vehicle.
The surveillance footage also captured Johnson attempting to blend in by pretending to clean one of his tires after emerging from under the victim’s SUV. Chanelle, another victim, noted, “All of the victims had flip-flops and shorts on. That’s what we all had in common.”
She went on to describe the emotional toll the incident had on her, stating, “Going into the community and doing this to women is absolutely disgusting, and I don’t think he realizes what it’s doing to us as the victims.” She also mentioned that she had suffered nightmares since the incident.
This isn’t the first time Johnson has been accused of such behavior. In June 2016, at the age of 20, he was cited in Nebraska for a similar crime after he was caught hiding under a woman’s car to touch her feet. That incident marked his fourth citation for the same act that year. At the time, Johnson admitted to authorities that he was “sexually attracted to women’s feet” and claimed that he could not “control his sexual desires.”
A preliminary hearing for Johnson’s current charges is scheduled for October 3.
