“I Couldn’t Cry, I Couldn’t Talk”: Florida Man Charged with Murder After Running Over Mother of His Child in Front of Daughter

A Florida man, 32-year-old Edwin Amaya, has been charged with the murder of 29-year-old Brenda Hernandez Amaya, the mother of his child, after allegedly running her over with his pickup truck in a horrifying incident witnessed by their 10-year-old daughter and neighbors. The tragic event occurred in Pompano Beach on Saturday morning.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place around 9:30 a.m. in the 100 block of S.W. Eighth Street. Authorities responding to the scene found two victims: Brenda, who was critically injured and later pronounced dead at the hospital and a 32-year-old man who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported that an argument had broken out between Edwin and Brenda in the parking lot of their apartment complex. The confrontation was reportedly centered around their 2-year-old son. As tensions escalated, Edwin allegedly backed up his Ford F-250 truck, then drove forward and deliberately ran over Brenda.

A male bystander attempted to intervene, clinging to the truck in a desperate attempt to stop Edwin, but he eventually fell off. After the attack, Edwin crashed his vehicle into parked cars while fleeing the scene. He then abandoned the truck and fled on foot but was apprehended by police shortly afterward, told New England Cable News.

The devastating incident was witnessed by Brenda’s 10-year-old daughter, who later described the emotional shock she felt. “I couldn’t cry. I couldn’t talk. I went downstairs; I started running,” the young girl said. Family members and neighbors expressed their heartbreak and disbelief over the horrific event, which took place in front of several onlookers.

Brenda leaves behind three children, including her 2-year-old son with Edwin and the daughter who witnessed the attack. Neighbors reported that Edwin appeared intoxicated during the incident, further adding to the tragedy of the situation. Following his arrest, Edwin Amaya is now facing a charge of premeditated murder. He is being held at the Broward County Jail without bond as the investigation continues.

This shocking case has left the community in Pompano Beach in mourning. Family and neighbors are grappling with the violent loss of a young mother whose life was cut short in an unimaginable way. The impact on her children, especially her daughter who witnessed the incident, is profound.

The tragic nature of the crime has drawn attention to the broader issues of domestic violence and the dangers that can arise in high-conflict situations involving children. Authorities have not yet released further details about what may have led to the fatal confrontation. As the legal process moves forward, Brenda’s family and community are left grieving the loss of a mother and seeking justice for the violence that unfolded in front of innocent children.
