When Nadija, an animal rescuer and fosterer, first met Chip at the county shelter, the kitten was in desperate need of a second chance. He had been stuck in a kennel for days, malnourished, dirty, and suffering from a severe eye infection. Though Nadija was already caring for other foster animals, she couldn’t stop thinking about Chip, hoping someone would step in to help him soon.
After more than a week without a foster, Nadija decided to take action and give Chip the opportunity he so desperately needed. “After Chip had his eye surgery, Nadija brought him home and made him comfortable with cozy, warm blankets. Though tiny and covered in flea dirt, he soon felt safe, falling soundly asleep in his new bed.”
For the first few days, Chip rested, giving his body time to heal and regain strength. Nadija spent countless hours by his side, “I spent a lot of time just laying with him, which he loved, snuggling him and making him feel safe and loved.”
As Chip’s physical condition improved, his spirit began to shine through. He started playing and showing interest in toys. Despite his low energy and some ongoing health issues, he was always cheerful, enjoying meals, and soaking up the extra love from his foster mom. He would often “thank” her by washing her face and purring softly into her ears.
His transformation, however, was no easy journey. “It has been such a rollercoaster with this sweet boy—a plethora of meds and different foods, but this makes it all worth it.” After nearly two months of careful attention, Chip was finally feeling better. He began using the litter box more consistently and was ready for some fun.
Nadija introduced him to two other cats, Milo and Alfie, who immediately brought out Chip’s playful side. Despite his shorter limbs, which caused him to waddle when he walked, Chip kept up with the other cats, tumbling and racing around. “Chip loves to play, hang out in a cozy bed with a heating pad, and loves his cardboard scratcher. Even though he’s not a ‘normal’ kitten, he’s doing well.”
Alfie, who is blind, became especially attached to Chip, following him everywhere and often encouraging him into mischief. “He’s such a happy, playful (in his own way), snuggly boy who deserves the absolute best,” Nadija said of her resilient foster. Though Chip needs additional help with mobility and reaching milestones, his zest for life is unstoppable. Now, with a loving human by his side and soft blankets to keep him warm, Chip enjoys his mornings, rolling around in bed until it’s time for breakfast.
