Trump Accuses Kamala Harris of ‘Cheating’ in Voter Registration Lawsuit

Former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Friday evening to express outrage over a federal lawsuit related to voter registrations in Virginia. Trump also accused Vice President Kamala Harris of “cheating” and attempting to influence the upcoming election.

“Kamala Harris and the Department of Justice have once again launched an unconstitutional and illegal attack on America’s Democracy,” Trump wrote. “This time, Kamala Harris, who is losing in the Polls, is trying to flood our Elections with NON-CITIZENS – These votes are ILLEGAL! Governor Glenn Youngkin, who is doing an incredible job, was correct in removing non-citizens from the voter rolls, a Law that was actually passed by then Democrat Governor Tim Kaine.”

Trump continued his accusations, stating, “Now Kamala, because we are doing so well in Virginia, wants to put those non-citizens back on the voter rolls, even though they aren’t allowed to vote. The only reason for this is CHEATING. This is un-American and, with less than 30 days until the Election, it’s clear-cut ELECTION INTERFERENCE.

Kamala Harris can’t win fair-and-square, so she is doing everything she can to undermine Honest and Fair Elections. We must protect American Voters, and protect America’s Democracy!” However, the lawsuit in question, filed by the civil rights division of the Department of Justice, is unrelated to Harris and focuses on the National Voter Registration Act.

Specifically, it concerns the provision known as the “Quiet Period,” which bars the removal of voters from rolls less than 90 days before a federal election. This rule is meant to prevent last-minute errors and ensure that voters who may have been removed by mistake have time to correct the issue.

This case is not unique; a similar lawsuit was filed against Alabama last month. The controversy centers on voter roll purges, a tactic some states have adopted in response to unfounded claims by the GOP, including Trump, that non-citizens are being registered in large numbers. Such registration is already illegal, and any incidents that do occur are generally easy to detect.

Trump and other GOP leaders have challenged the integrity of voter rolls in several battleground states, often relying on debunked data to support their claims. As the election approaches, both parties continue to battle over the measures taken to secure the voter rolls and the accusations of election interference.
