Royal commentator Daniela Elser has raised eyebrows after pointing out that Prince William and Kate Middleton have yet to release their Christmas card this year. Elser shared her thoughts in a candid piece for News.com.au, questioning why the Wales family has delayed its traditional holiday greeting, especially when compared to the Sussexes, who recently unveiled their own card.
“Where the hell is the Wales family Christmas card?” Elser asked in her article, voicing her frustration over the prolonged silence. This marks the first year since 2019 that the Wales family has been so late with their festive card, which traditionally arrives by December 18.
Elser speculated on what might be going on inside the Wales family’s Kensington Palace operations. “What the dickens is going on this year inside the Waleses’ Kensington Palace operations?” she wondered aloud, suggesting that something significant could be causing the delay.
While Elser acknowledged that there may be various reasons behind the delay, she highlighted the ongoing drama surrounding Prince Andrew’s involvement in the Chinese spy scandal as a major contributing factor. She suggested that it could be a strategic move by the Waleses to wait until the media frenzy dies down before releasing their card.
“It would be entirely sensible if the Waleses had decided to sit on their card until this hullabaloo has blown over; however, they could be waiting a while, putting them in a right oil’ pickle,” she wrote. “The prince and princess have to issue it at some point, but how close to Christmas can or will they get?”
In Elser’s view, this delay could also serve as a welcome shift for the royal family, particularly in light of the controversies surrounding Prince Andrew. She noted that a timely Christmas card release would be a “heaven-sent” distraction for King Charles, allowing him to shift focus away from his brother’s recent troubles.
“It is also an easy and obvious win for a royal family that could desperately do with some sort of shiny new thing to deflect people from thinking too much about what the Duke of York has been getting up to,” Elser concluded.
As Christmas draws near, the Wales family’s holiday card remains a much-anticipated mystery, leaving royal watchers questioning when, or if, it will make an appearance.
